Who We are

MCCPTA is an association of local PT(S)As in Montgomery County. We currently represent over 50,000 members in 194 local PT(S)As across the County. Founded in 1944, MCCPTA has grown from 15 PTAs to 194, reflecting the vital roles PTAs have —individually, and collectively through MCCPTA— in advocating for and meeting the needs of our children.

MCCPTA is affiliated with National PTA, the oldest and largest child advocacy organization in the United States, comprising more than 20,000 local units in all 50 states. Click here for more information about National PTA.

MCCPTA is also affiliated with our State PTA, Free State PTA, which serves as the liaison between the Council PTAs/local PTAs and National PTA, helping each to function effectively and to support and sustain each other. Click here for information on Free State PTA.

MCCPTA, as a Council PTA, serves as the key link between local PT(S)As, and Free State PTA, National PTA and other Council PTAs. We also support and work closely with our local PT(S)As to advocate at the local and state levels on issues of concern to our communities. Local PTSAs are the bedrock of MCCPTA, and our role is to support local school communities by working with local PTAs to provide support for parent involvement in access to educational information, resources, events and activities.

Our Executive Committee are the elected officers of MCCPTA under our bylaws, and they provide overall leadership to MCCPTA.

MCCPTA’s Electoral Process

  • Each year, MCCPTA’s Nominating Committee solicits nominations for officer positions for the following school year.

  • Article VI of our Bylaws governs the MCCPTA nominations process and elections.

  • All nominations for the Executive Committee positions are due in February.

  • The Nominating Committee may seek additional nominees for positions if qualified candidates have not been nominated.

  • A slate is typically announced by the Nominating Committee at the end of March.

  • However, in accordance with the bylaws, anyone who wishes to run for a position from the floor may do so by notifying the Nominating Committee at least 14 days before the election.

  • The election is typically held during the April Delegates Assembly meeting.

  • Nominees should represent the diversity and strength of our membership, continue to provide leadership and support for local PTAs in the coming year, and be committed to the overall mission of PTA. Our goal is to ensure that MCCPTA has strong and skillful leaders who will work together to advocate for our children.

MCCPTA Delegates Assembly

The Delegates Assembly meets monthly during the school year to propose, debate and determine countywide PT(S)A positions on key issues. Each local PT(S)A can have up to three voting representatives on the Delegates Assembly of MCCPTA:

  • The PT(S)A President or designee;

  • Up to two delegates from each PT(S)A.

These delegates from each local PT(S)A, together with the MCCPTA Board of Directors, comprise the MCCPTA Delegates Assembly.
