What We Do
MCCPTA advocates for the education and welfare of the children, families, and schools in Montgomery County, ensuring that the issues of concern to our community are raised with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), the Montgomery County Board of Education (BOE), Montgomery County Council and the Maryland General Assembly. We advocate for students, parents, and teachers of MCPS based on our annual advocacy priorities, which is approved by our membership. Each school year, MCCPTA’s Delegates Assembly approves our Advocacy Priorities for the year in question.
We work with PT(S)A leadership across the county on issues relating to the education and welfare of our children by:
exchanging and pooling local information and experience
providing support and training for local leaders
interfacing with MCPS, the BOE, the County Council and other county and state entities;
advocating for school budgets consistent with school needs;
working to create programs that foster creativity and a love of the arts;
tackling key issues of parent and student concern;
offering workshops and programs on critical areas of focus for our community, including diversity, equity & inclusion;
developing relationships to move PT(S)A agendas forward;
hosting cultural arts showcases and student enrichment events;
working closely with MCPS to provide parent perspectives on various issues, and disseminating information about school system events, developments, and changes in school system and Board of Education policy;
collaborating with the County Council and other County agencies on matters that affect children and youth, keeping these officials apprised on the issues of concern and interest to our families.
